Closing an Account
Closing of a TH Accounts can be carried out at any time by TH Depositors, Legal Guardians (based on records in TH’s system), Nominees, Trustees, or by orders from the Authorities.
TH savings accounts may be closed under these five (5) circumstances:-
- Instructed by the Depositors / Legal Guardians (based on records in TH’s system).
- Demise of the Depositors.
- Comatose / Incompetent / Incapacitated / Senile / OKU (Mentally Unstable) Depositors.
- Instructed by the authorities (Court / Insolvency Department / Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) / Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM)).
- Inactive Dormant Account.
NOTES:
Closing of TH Accounts CANNOT be carried out at the TH Strategic Partners’ Offices.
Instructed by the Depositor / Legal Guardians
Accounts that can be closed are:
- Adult Accounts.
- Junior Accounts.
Documents required :
- Identification documents:
MyKad, MyKid, MyTentera, Birth Certificate, Adoption Certificate and International Passport
(Official document as a proof of personal details).
The process of closing aTH accounts at TH counters is as follows:
- Depositors / Legal Guardian (as per registered on TH’s system) to be present at any TH counter.
- Present the completed set of documents.
- Payment methods for closing of accounts are:-
- By cash deposit, for amounts up to RM10,000.00.
- Account transfer between two TH accounts.
- By Telegraphic Transfer.
- Donation to the Tabung Kebajikan Jemaah Haji Malaysia (TKJHM).
- Forms to be completed: Borang JP011: Borang Permohonan Penutupan Akaun.
Demise of the Depositor
Inheritance Claims
Closing of an account (of the demised) can be carried out by:
- Nominees.
- Trustees.
- Heirs (waris) according to the Islamic Law / Faraid by producing a letter of Attorney / Order (Shariah Court / Civil Court / Small Estates Distribution Act / Amanah Raya Berhad).
The processes of closing a TH account of the deceased :
- Nominee or Trustee or Heir to be present at TH counter.
- Present the complete set of documents.
- Forms to be completed:
- JP005: Borang Permohonan Pengeluaran Pusaka
- JP006: Borang Akuan Waris Pengeluaran Pusaka
4. Payment methods of inheritance:
- By credit to the applicant's TH Account.
- By cheque (limited to institutions / companies / non-Malaysian citizens / bankrupt individuals).
- Donation to the Tabung Kebajikan Jemaah Haji Malaysia (TKJHM).
Documents required:
- Self-identification document of the applicant/heir/administrator/application letter (if an institution/company) that completes Form JP005/JP006.
- Depositor's Death Certificate / Overseas Death Report (issued by JPN).
- Power of Attorney/Order (if the depositor does not make a nomination).
- Personal Identification Document of the Legal Guardian (if the nominee/trustee/heir is under 18 years of age).
- Birth Certificate (if the nominee / trustee / heir is under the age of 18).
- Death Certificate/Report of Death Abroad for deceased nominee/trustee/heirs.
- Marriage certificate of the spouse (required if the account balance is RM1,000.00 and below and there is no nominee/trustee/power of attorney/order).
- Heir's Birth Certificate for proof of entitled heirs based on Shariah Law (required if the account balance is RM1,000.00 and below and there is no nominee/trustee/power of attorney/order).
- Power of Attorney/Order (Civil Court/Shariah Court/Land Office/District (Small Claim)/Probate Office if the Nominee/Heir is in a state of Coma/Incompetent/Incapacitated/Elderly/OKU (Insanity).
- Sworn Declaration (Statutory Declaration Act 1960).
- Other supporting documents (if required by TH).
Hibah Amanah Claim
Closing of accounts of Hibah Amanah Benefactors (the deceased) can be carried out by:

Hibah Amanah Beneficiary / *Legal Guardian named in the TH Hibah Amanah document.
Processes to claim Hibah Amanah :
- Hibah Amanah Beneficiary/ *Legal Guardian to be present at any TH counters.
- Present the complete set documents.
- Forms to be completed:
- JP035: Borang Tuntutan Pengeluaran Hibah Amanah TH/ *Penamaan.
- Methods of payment
- Credited to TH account of Hibah Amanah Beneficiary / Legal Guardian
- By cheque (limited to institutions / companies / non-Malaysian citizens / bankrupt individuals).
- By Telegraphic Transfer.
- Donation to the Tabung Kebajikan Jemaah Haji Malaysia (TKJHM).
Documents required:
- Hibah Amanah Benefactor’s Death Certificate / Death Report Abroad (issued by JPN).
- Identification Document of the Hibah Amanah Beneficiary / Legal Guardian / Nominee.
Comatose / Incompetent / Incapacitated / Senile / OKU (Mentally Unstable) Depositor
Closing of TH accounts for Comatose / Incompetent / Incapacitated / Senile / OKU (Mentally Unstable) Depositor.
Closing of accounts can be carried out by the next of kin.
Documents required:
- Completed application letter from the next of kin.
- Copies of identification documents of the depositor and the next of kin (to be certified by TH staff).
- Doctor’s Confirmation Letter:
- Government / Private Hospitals; or
- Government / Private Clinics.
- Borang Jaminan Gantirugi (JP025) - duty stamped by the next of kin submitting the application form.
- Thumbprint of the next of kin (applicant) on copies of identification documents.
- Written approval from all heirs and nominees. Copies of identification documents are to be attached.
- In the event where the applicant is the sole heir, confirmation from one of the following is required:
- The Penghulu.
- Community leader (Sabah/ Sarawak).
- Commissioner for Oaths.
- Visit by two authorised TH staff to the hospital / depositor’s place of residence.
- Current photograph of the depositor with consent of the next of kin / hospital.
- In the event of the next of kin / hospital did not give consent for photographs, confirmation in the visit verification report is required.
- The visit verification report must be prepared and must be signed by the two authorised TH staff.
- Submit the application to the TH Headquarters for approval.
Notes:
Only applicable for this category :
- Payment will only be made through transfers between TH accounts
- Depositor’s thumbprint is not required.
- JP form is not required.
- Heir (Waris)/ next of kin are determined based on Islamic Law and must be above 18 years old.
- Official application letter from the next of kin must contain the following information:
Applicant’s name and address:- Date
- Depositor’s name.
- Identification number of the depositor and applicant.
- TH account numbers of the depositor and applicant.
- Withdrawal amount or closing of account options.
- Purpose of withdrawal.
- Applicant’s signature.
- Telephone number.
- Letter verified by the Commissioner for Oaths is needed if the claim is made by a non-heir.
Order by the Authorities
The authorities (Court / Insolvency Department / Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) / Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM)) may order TH to close certain depositors account by issuing/presenting a court order.
Inactive Dormant Account
Depositors’ accounts without any transaction for more than 7 years will be classified as Inactive (Dormant) Accounts, in accordance with the Regulations and the Tabung Haji Act (1995).
Starting from 2018, Inactive Accounts shall no longer receive distribution of the Annual Hibah.
TH is exempted from surrendering money from the Inactive Accounts to the Registrar of Unclaimed Money. As such, the depositors or their heir can still make a claim on the Inactive Account’s balance, at any time, by submitting such documents which may be required by TH.
Location for Closing Accounts
Closing of accounts can be carried out at all TH counters:
- State Offices.
- Branches.
- Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
- Islamic Financial Services Centre (IFiC).
- Service Centres (not involving cash payments).
- TH Community (disbursement not exceeding RM2,000).
